Ooh, I finally got my contributor copy (address issues) of A Universe of Rainbows! It is glorious! More about this lovely anthology edited by Matt Forrest Esenwine in another post. But as soon as I looked at the hibiscuses on the cover (by illustrator Jamey Christoph), I knew I needed to write a skinny poem. Growing up in Florida, I saw these flowers all the time, and I just was back in Florida for a family health crisis and spotted some blooms. They’re so big and blowy and show-offy–that’s how I always see them. And yet if you’re that vibrant, how can you not show off?
Here’s my skinny poem.
Whew! This is it. The final day of National Poetry Month. I’ve struggled this year, but I’m glad I kept up this practice for the whole month. You can see more of my National Poetry Month poems here. And for Poetry Friday this week, I’m going to try to do a roundup and reflection. Thanks for stopping by!
