Happy Poetry Friday! (Wondering what Poetry Friday is? Click here.)
Today, Friday, I’m in Columbus, OH, for NCTE! It’s my first time attending since 2019, and it feels exciting and overwhelming. I’m not nearly as organized and prepared as I like to be for a big conference, but that’s just the reality of life lately. I’m trying to focus on the absolute best thing about NCTE. For me, that’s connecting with creators, educators, industry folks–all the people who are part of the magic of creating books and connecting kids with them. So I’m trying to just take deep breaths and let go of my “normal” expectations and goals. I know doing a session with some fabulous Poetry Friday friends on Saturday is going to be a highlight!
Here’s this week’s poem:
And here’s my NCTE schedule, in case you’re here!
And for more wonderful poetry, don’t miss the Poetry Friday Roundup with the amazing Irene Latham! (PS Would someone be able to add me to the Roundup?)

Have a wonderful time, Laura!
Yes to all this interconnectedness! So great that you’re able to get back to NCTE this year. Hope it’s all you want it to be! xo
I saw that you and Margaret are together, such fun & sparkle from your picture! Continue having fun, connecting! Love the poem & that photo with it, too, Laura!
Have fun at NCTE, Laura! I adore your poem about connectedness. What a beautiful message for the world! : )
I hope you’re having fun and filling up your creativity tank…and that the organization doesn’t even matter any more. You are there. You are with your tribe. Enjoy, fill up and rest if you can. I wish you lots of meetings with PF people.
Yes! How interconnected we all are — humans and nature and humans! What a wonderful way to celebrate that connectedness at NCTE!
Love this poem. And I’m so excited that you’re at NCTE. I wish I was there. I’m hoping to make my way there next year!
Love the sense of community, reaching, and connecting in your poem Laura! Happy Conferencing, thanks!
Laura, it was such a delight to meet you. I saw your smile and beautiful hair from across the room, and I was drawn to your table first. Thank you for being there and shining the light of creativity for others to be blessed by. “I need you need me” is such a great way to say it. So true!
