In Memory of Jack

We just got home from the vet, where we had to have Captain Jack Sparrow put to sleep. It’s been a hard, hard day. Here are a few poems I wrote with Jack in mind, plus a video I made a couple of months ago. Thanks, you guys, for always being so fond of Jack whenever he visited the blog.

  1. So sorry for your loss, Laura. I know what it’s like to lose a beloved pet. We had a beagle when our kids were young named Minnie. She had puppies Christmas morning 1992. That day is history in our family. Dogs bring such a joy to our lives.

  2. So sorry to hear about poor old Jack…we have 5 dogs and 2 cats here, so I know how hard it is to say goodbye to a 4‑legged family member. Beautiful tributes to Jack, though!

  3. (((Hugs))) to you, Laura. I can only imagine how difficult this must have been. Bon voyage, Captain Jack! May your breezes be balmy sailing across that rainbow bridge and your horizons taste of bacon.

  4. Laura,
I’m so sorry. I lost my dog 2 years ago and it was terribly hard. They are like people and we grow so close to their constant company. I will hold you in my heart over the weeks to come.

  5. Jack was loved as any dog would wish to be loved. I am so sorry. Fly on, sweet boy. xxoo

  6. I am so sorry, Laura. Jack had a great life thanks to all of you. Your poems and posts helped us get to know and enjoy him. Big hugs to all of you. My sympathy from the heart.

  7. I am so, so sorry to hear about Jack. It’s so hard to say goodbye. Your poems are a beautiful tribute to him and a wonderful way to hold him close. Thinking of you all…

  8. So sorry to hear about Jack. I’ve enjoyed getting to know him through your blog during the years. Thanks for sharing these wonderful poems and the touching video.

  9. Oh Laura, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Pets are family too. I feel your pain and that time is approaching when we will have to go through it all again. I had no inkling (or, who knows, maybe I did) that the end for Jack was near. Your 15 WOL post this morning was a lovely tribute, as well as the after video and poetry. Thank you for sharing with us. Now I know why the gloves looked so forlorn lying in the cold snow. Thinking of you and your family.

  10. So sorry for your loss- we enjoyed reading stories and poems about Jack and his adventures. He will be missed and remembered by so many on this site.

  11. I’m sorry for your loss, Laura. I always loved hearing about Captain Jack, know that he was special to you. I love that you have poems about him. Hugs to you and your husband, too.

  12. It’s been so obvious how much you’ve loved Captain Jack all these years, Laura. It’s so hard to say goodbye. I’m thinking of you (and Randy) and sending hugs your way.

  13. Sorry for your loss, Laura. Our newest dog is only 3 and you have reminded me to make the most of our time together. It’s so hard to lose these faithful members of our family.

  14. Laura, I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved pup. “An Old Dog in Autumn” is absolutely beautiful, so moving. Buon viaggio, Captain Jack!

  15. Thank you, everyone, for your words and hugs and good wishes. We will miss Jack tremendously…

  16. Oh, Laura…. Jack’s poems are so lovely and poignant. We have been through this three times … and it never gets any easier. Cherish your memories. Your sweet boy was so loved.
