I’ve got a poem up as poem of the day?at PoetryMinute.org, the site started by U.S. Children’s Poet Laureate Kenn Nesbitt that features a children’s poem every day. Today, starting at 7 a.m. and for 24 hours, my poem “Blush” from Stampede! Poems to Celebrate the Wild Side of School, will be up.??Stampede! recently went out of print, so I’m happy to see part of it shared:>)
Addendum: As of 9:20, it’s not there yet, so I guess there’s been some kind of glitch, but go check out Julie Larios’ fabulous “Mermaid,” anyway!
“Blush” is about that embarrassing moment when someone has a crush on you and word gets around.? I’m not going to post the words here (because I’m hoping you’ll comment on it over at PoetryMinute.org), but here’s me reading the poem.

Tricia at The Miss Rumphius Effect?(check out her Monday Poetry Stretches) has the Poetry Friday Roundup–enjoy!

Fun poem, Laura! I am a purple blusher, myself. I go way beyond cardinal-red. Thanks for sharing your reading!
Oh, dear! I don’t blush too often. But I get plenty of awful symptoms when nervous:>)

HELPING HANDS
Inundated with textbooks nestled
On the crook of my arm, backpack
Bullied tight with homework, I trudge
Up to 5th period history when my sneaker
Scuffs the tip of a stair ejecting myself into
Humanity. Wall to wall laughter ensues,
Pointed fingers thrusting in my direction.
Face turns to fuchsia as I hide shame by
Avoiding everyone?s eyes when I see
Hands (not my own) picking up my
School sanctioned debris. ?You okay??
?Not really.? ?Don?t listen to these clowns.?
?I won?t.? With all my materials in
Working order I walk to class thankful
To the football star for not being a cliche’.
