Poetryaction for The Secret Life of Squirrels

January 26, 2016 By Laura

Here’s today’s poetryaction!

I’ve had this poetryaction for The Secret Life of Squirrels for a long time and am finally getting around to sharing it! I didn’t expect to like this book because, well, the cover looks a little cheesy to me. Then I read it and was totally charmed by the art, the artist’s process of setting up these miniature scenes and photographing real backyard squirrels in them, and the witty text. In fact, as I’m trying to remember it, I’m thinking I need to go read it again!

My poem grew out of remembering the great fun I had a child building all sorts of miniature houses for dolls, tiny stuffed animals, and pets. None of my homes’ inhabitants recreated scenes as fun as those in this book, though!

[Please check out my Pinterest boards of poetryactions and bookalikes if you’d like to see more. I’m building up a collection there!]
