Pond Aerator [15 Words or Less]

Hello, and welcome! This is 15 Words or Less Poems, a low-pressure way to wake up your poetry brain (guidelines here), and I’m very glad you’re here.

Photo: Laura P. Salas

At the amusement park in August, I took this pic of a bubbler in a pond. This image makes me think of several things:

  1. Casper the Friendly Ghost
  2. a steampunk amusement park (cool!)
  3. Cousin It

And here’s my first draft. When I went to write this, I started thinking about some of the sad things that many friends are going through. And as soon as I thought that, the picture changed for me.

It’s your turn! Have fun (more fun than I did, please!) and stick to 15 WORDS OR LESS! (Title doesn’t count toward word count.)

  1. Cousin IT! ha!

I saw a campfire of ice.

    Ice fishing

    requiresice fire
    –crystal tinder
    –kindling shards
    –ice cube fuel
    and some
    wishing

    1. Oh, I LOVE crystal tinder! This is almost enough to make me want to try ice fishing. Almost:)

  2. Undulating water
    shapes and shifts
    beaked bedecked bird
    now face of scorn
    imagination born

  3. Good morning all. Laura, hoping your friends’ issues will soon ease. Such a caring verse. My first thought was the Fidget Spinner toy. Possibly it may be more than just a toy.

    Self Preservation

    Fidget spinner
    soaring upward,
    then

    SPLASH!

    Refreshing itself,
    providing relief
    for those in need.

    1. Your poem gave me the coolest (ha!) image of fidget spinners going out like millions of frisbees and landing in ponds, making fountains everywhere. Not ecologically good, but a refreshing thought!

  4. Touching poem Laura. I can see the tear drops here when viewing on my computer–my phone gave me a slightly different view… Thanks!

    WATER

    Source of life
    bubbling over
    rippling out
    rivers of
    possibilities…

    1. Love this, Cindy! I was just watching some Youtube videos of pet pigeons bathing, and the owners kept splashing, splashing, until the curious pigeons came closer for a shower:>)

  5. poem by Jessica Bigi

    Our Tears

    frosty windows
    on hearts
    bubbling over
    with joy
    flooding streams
    of emotions
    helping us
    to heal

    1. I love those first two lines, Jessica. I cry at the drop of a hat, as they say. “Flooding streams of emotions…” yep!

  6. I hadent read you poem befor writing this KI usaly write my poem then read everyons pomes

  7. The first thing that came to mind was a big white shaggy dog.

    Drenched

    A shaggy dog
    waits in the rain.
    Peeks out under soggy fur,
    Hoping for sun.

  8. The first thought that popped into my mind was a big white shaggy dog.

    Drenched

    A shaggy dog
    waits in the rain.
    Peeks out under soggy fur,
    hoping for sun.
