Happy Poetry Friday! (Wondering what Poetry Friday is? Click here.)
I loved Patricia MacLachlan’s untraditional biography of Matisse, The Iridescence of Birds. It made me feel like I knew the heart of Matisse, like I knew what made him tick. I have written several long biographies, and I don’t have the courage to write like that. I tend to stick with just the facts. But when I read a biography, I hunger for a lot more than facts! There have been loads of wonderful biographies like this the past few years, and I feel like they make a great introduction to someone who’s important.

And don’t forget to visit Margaret Simon at Reflections on the Teche for the Poetry Roundup. Enjoy!

I adore this book, and love your poetic response, especially those “rainbow feathers of pigeons.”
Thanks, Catherine–this book is such a poem already that I felt I was just stealing from it to write my poetryaction:>)

I love this book too, Laura. Your poem reflects the book’s tone beautifully.
Thanks, Michelle. I really like a lot of these “nontraditional” pb biographies that make me see the person and not a collection of facts.
