Putrid Poetry: Day 13: Lemons Coming Out of My Pores

April 13, 2016 By Laura

Dr. Louis Pasternak Skullstench: Stealth Poet
Poetry Assignment #13: The Diamante

Lemons Coming Out of My Pores

lemonade
tangy, yellow
clinking, drinking, chilling,
summer, liquid, noon, basketball
slipping, dripping, shaking
clear, salty
sweat

You said 2 opposite or related things work. Lemonade turns into sweat! It turns into something else, too, but you don’t want a poem about that. Right?

Right. I never thought I would say this, Louis, but thank you for your restraint. I enjoyed the way you even worked some rhyme into your diamante!

The talent show was not perfect. Miss S said Goldie was sharing poems and she wanted to show “a diverse range of talents.”
She said, “Louis, think of some other things you’re good at.”
But poetry is what I’m good at!

MAY NEWS

All 3 of my 2023 books are out now! Thank you to everyone who's celebrated with me, shared the books, or read/reviewed them. <3

Right now, I'm recovering from National Poetry Month! I'm also working on 2 tricky picture book revisions, and I'm preparing for a bunch of speaking events and storytimes! Join Yvonne Pearson and I for two loon-themed outdoor storytimes on June 6 and August 1. And on July 14, I'll be storying up a storm at Robert Trail Library! Hope to see you there!
