Wake up your poetry brains with 15 Words or Less (guidelines here)!

15WOLs

Here’s a picture I took in the woods on my birthday. I LOVE that silky seedhead–so gorgeous! This image makes me think of:

1) shucking corn
2) a fiber-optic light
3) fiberglass insulation and the way it makes a million tiny cuts on your skin

And here’s my?first draft.

  1. NATURE’S FIREWORKS

    Exploding seeds
    leap from weeds!
    Drift in the breeze.

    Sparrows ask for more,
    please.

Happy Thanksgiving, Laura. I’m thankful that you give us the fun opportunity to create! I look forward to Thursdays.

    1. Thanks, Cindyb! Wow–you got a lot of drama out of this wispy picture. It’s like magic:>)

  3. It’s Time

    The littlest angel
    emerges from year-long sleep,
    grooms her wings,
    takes her place of honor.

Good morning and Happy Thanksgiving. I am thankful for this weekly gathering of like minds, and especially thankful to Laura for providing the venue. Thanksgiving seems to be the “go” for turning on the Christmas lights and I think I see a tiny face with big eyes amid the gossamer.

    1. Hehehe–happy to be your tardiness causer. I could make it go live at 4:45 if that would help any;>) This is so short, but it feels at least 15 words long because of the sounds in it. Love the finality of that last line.

  9. wishing words
    flowed smooth
    as silk
    when the page
    is empty,
    the mind brimming

I am truly grateful to you, Laura, and all the players on Thursdays!

    1. Those last three lines…yup. That’s it. It’s the challenge of all writers. And I’m thankful for all of you:>)

    2. I have often had that same wish! Don’t wishes come true if you blow the silk from one of those weeds? I think I’ll try it next time I am staring down an empty page!

  11. I love how you can follow a speck of dust in a ray of light. Here’s to light in your Thanksgiving Day.

    Light follows anything it finds,
    dust, a kitten whisker–
    then holds on
    for dear life.

    –Margaret Simon

    1. I love the sense of urgency in this, Margaret! And that kitten whisker–great detail.

  21. Beneath the canopy silent sprinklers
    Squat, squirting
    Silver cascades of seed-splashes
    Across the forest floor.

    1. Love the imagery of “silver cascades”…I would like to be under that canopy when the silent sprinklers are working !

    Decorating for Christmas

    1. This is beautiful, Charles–evocative. And it has a sort of different feeling than a lot of your poetry. Interesting to see the different poetics sides of people:>)
