HAPPY THANKSGIVING! I’m thankful for this enthusiastic, brave, wonderful group who gathers to share poems and feedback every week. Whether you’re a regular or just an occasional visitor, thank you. I’m glad you’re here!
Wake up your poetry brains with 15 Words or Less (guidelines here)!
Here’s a picture I took in the woods on my birthday. I LOVE that silky seedhead–so gorgeous! This image makes me think of:
1) shucking corn
2) a fiber-optic light
3) fiberglass insulation and the way it makes a million tiny cuts on your skin
And here’s my?first draft.

NATURE’S FIREWORKS
Exploding seeds
leap from weeds!
Drift in the breeze.
Sparrows ask for more,
please.

It’s Time
The littlest angel
emerges from year-long sleep,
grooms her wings,
takes her place of honor.
Good morning and Happy Thanksgiving. I am thankful for this weekly gathering of like minds, and especially thankful to Laura for providing the venue. Thanksgiving seems to be the “go” for turning on the Christmas lights and I think I see a tiny face with big eyes amid the gossamer.
I love the first few lines of your poem
This is so sweet.
“Grooms her wings.” Yes let’s turn on the Christmas tree lights and see the little angel.
Yes! And this makes me now see fiber-optic holiday lights! Lovely!

Fantastic imagination, Jessica. Love those first two lines.
We don’t often have the luxury of repetition in 15 words or less. Love the repeated wish.

Many thanks, Laura, for making me late for work every Thursday morning! Only kidding. I look forward to your challenge and appreciate the fine people who participate and comment week after week.

I love your poem
This is lovely!
The November wind is surely blowing today. Love to watch the flying seeds. Thanks for that image.
Hehehe–happy to be your tardiness causer. I could make it go live at 4:45 if that would help any;>) This is so short, but it feels at least 15 words long because of the sounds in it. Love the finality of that last line.

wishing words
flowed smooth
as silk
when the page
is empty,
the mind brimming
I am truly grateful to you, Laura, and all the players on Thursdays!
This is so true when writing this is wonderful
Those last three lines…yup. That’s it. It’s the challenge of all writers. And I’m thankful for all of you:>)
I have often had that same wish! Don’t wishes come true if you blow the silk from one of those weeds? I think I’ll try it next time I am staring down an empty page!

I love how you can follow a speck of dust in a ray of light. Here’s to light in your Thanksgiving Day.
Light follows anything it finds,
dust, a kitten whisker–
then holds on
for dear life.
–Margaret Simon
I love the use of light in your poem
Brilliant point of view.
Love this! And such a season for light!
I love the sense of urgency in this, Margaret! And that kitten whisker–great detail.

I love that you wrote your poem as a pray
Beautiful, Kate!
I love the fragility of this…
I do OK if it’s something that will hold very still and in good light–ha!

Sly silk strands,
Silver thread dancing in golden sunlight
Before escaping on wind’s breath.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I am thankful for these wonderful poetry prompts every Thursday. I am also thankful for the warm blankets of snow that have fallen recently.
I wish everyone a good time today!
I love that they’re sly!

Beneath the canopy silent sprinklers
Squat, squirting
Silver cascades of seed-splashes
Across the forest floor.
LOVE how you compared these to sprinklers. That third line is gorgeous:>)
Love the imagery of “silver cascades”…I would like to be under that canopy when the silent sprinklers are working !

by spiders on a tinsel spree.
Me too, Penny:>) Ooh, now I’m going to see spiders and seedheads every time I see tinsel this holiday season:>)

A SWEATER FOR A SPRITE

for winter-wear
weaving til dusk is nigh

This is beautiful, Charles–evocative. And it has a sort of different feeling than a lot of your poetry. Interesting to see the different poetics sides of people:>)
