Tip #4: Slow down.
Read slowly. Much more slowly than you would read prose. Poems are dense and compact and a lot to take in!

The rhythm makes it difficult to slow down. Another great state poem. I plan to travel to Oregon in July for a wedding ; that’s about as close as I can come to Washington, at least for now.
It does, doesn’t it? Much easier to slow down free verse poems…
