Hello, and welcome! This is 15 Words or Less Poems, a low-pressure way to wake up your poetry brain (guidelines here), and I’m very glad you’re here.
This image makes me think of several things:
- those displays of shoes/boots to represent people (soldiers often, but not always) killed
- my husband’s converse obsession
- my hatred of shoelaces!
And here’s my first draft. NOTE: I’m off today on a visit to a library, where I’ll be sharing and writing poetry with kids. Can’t wait to do that and to deliver the signed books I got for them at ALA. Bonus: My daughter Annabelle will be along with me on this little road trip:>) The downside is that I will be out all day and not around to comment on your poems, though I will read them when I can!
It’s your turn! Have fun and stick to 15 WORDS OR LESS! (Title doesn’t count toward word count.)

My family and I are traveling today, too. I’ve been thinking of riddle-kus

your jump dreams for sale
Tried to sneak in soles, too! Glad you got it in there!
Linda, I love this, especially eyelets and soles.
Red, white, blue
orange, tan, black
any color on this rack
carries you far & back.
(draft) Margaret Simon
“carries you far and back” made me think of the nostalgia of these sneakers first…then I realizes they do that physically, too. Nice!
Back in time and far into the future. Converse steady!
Enjoy the day with your daughter Laura. Oh, those Converse shoes. Watched Midnight at the Museum with little ones this past weekend and that bit of fun remains in my brain.
Midnight Soiree
Clock strikes twelve
shoes rebel
jump off shelves
night of fun
before morning’s sun.
If all those in the picture “jumped off shelves” there would indeed be some clomp, whomp and stomping!
Eyelets forward,
Seated two by two,
Poised, tongues hushed
For a “really big shew”!
You nailed it Donna. Such a fun verse.
Very good description of “sneakers,” Laura!

The rhythm and rhyme are wonderful Cindy.
