Happy Poetry Friday! (Wondering what Poetry Friday is? Click here.)
If you follow me on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook (I’m @LauraPSalas on all of them), you might see my #OutsideEveryDay photos. I try to get outside most days and take a close-up photo of something that catches my eye. I don’t write poems to the photos, usually. They’re just a way to get me outside and observing. Here’s a poem I wrote with one of my images from last week.
And for lots of wonderful poetry, don’t miss the Poetry Friday Roundup with wonderful verse novelist Laura Shovan.

So much feeling and imagery captured in just a few words. Thanks, Laura.
The city in those drops is stunning both in photo and your poem. Love!! xo
Your words are pearls, Laura! Beautiful image as well. 🙂
I have seen and love every one of your photos, Laura. Wow, wow, wow, this is fabulous, as are those “blurred jewels”!
This photo is amazing with the reflection in the droplets. I love this little haiku moment of blurred jewels. You should keep this up. I was hoping to do something like it every month and then make a calendar for Christmas gifts.
Thanks, Margaret. Yeah, so many wonderful things I could attempt to do, but I’m so busy I barely have time to brush my teeth right now. But thank you for suggesting it’s calendar-worthy! :>)
Hi, Laura. What a cool image! The droplets almost look like buds on that branch. “The city drips from branches” — makes me think of spring. Thanks for being part of today’s Poetry Friday round up
What a beautiful image poem, Laura! I am fascinated by the world we see in dew or rain drops. It feels magical and somehow elevated.
Laura, you captured the beauty of winter in your amazing little nugget of thought. Mixing tears with jewels is an insightful reflection. If you are interested, I would love to add your image poem to my Winter’s Embrace 2021 Gallery, if you are not using it elsewhere. Let me know.
Sure, Carol, that would be lovely!
What a beautiful image you captured–and your words add such depth to the image. A stunning combination.
What a spirit-feeding practice your “Outside Every Day” is.
Thank you for sharing your photo and poem with us. I enjoyed re-reading (and re-reading) it.
Thank you for sharing! There is so much beauty in something seemingly small like melting snow.
Laura, that is an amazing picture you’ve captured! The reflection in those droplets with a “city” inside.
Laura, wow, what an amazing photo and poem! When I read it aloud the consonance of letter /s/ and the alliteration of /t/ and /b/ made it even better. Your whole poem moved me, but “tears turned into blurred jewels” keeps repeating in my head. Thank you!
I love all the sounds you included in a poem focused on sight! The Ts like a steady drip, and the slowing down of the UR. Perfect!
Beautiful blurred jewels! Ruth, thereisnosuchthingasagodforsakentown.blogspot.com
Gorgeous “blurred jewels” Laura in image and words–and especially the interesting shapes they create and you captured inside them, thanks!
