Wake up your poetry brains with 15 Words or Less (guidelines here)!
The Gordon Lightfoot concert last month was at the beautiful State Theatre in Minneapolis. I always love looking at the architecture and embellishments inside. This (Waterlogued) picture is looking up at the ceiling.
This image makes me think of:
1) Cinderella’s carriage
2) a family Italian dinner (do you see the rigatoni or manicotti?)
3) a cheese grater (see it on the ceiling?)
And here’s my?first draft. I could not think of a single thing to write, so I wrote about that. Bleah.
It’s your turn! Have fun and stick to 15 WORDS OR LESS!??(Title doesn’t count toward word count:>) If you leave a poem in the comments, and if it’s 15 words or less, I’ll try to respond!
NOTE: I had a great time with my sister this past week, and I’m sad she has headed back to Florida. Thanks for all the good wishes!

Plain as unsauced spaghetti — love this description. The colors caught my eye in today’s picture.
Pluto
Never expected
a second red planet
with such a big heart.
wonderful
Aw, love that. There’s a special place in my heart for Pluto:>)
Did you watch Nova last night?
Really fascinating, all about the years the scientists worked on the Pluto project.
Hard to imagine it’s been ten years getting to Pluto, isn’t it? You created a good surprise here.

One Day
the opera house ceiling
lifted its gold wings
and took flight,
our faces tilted watching
?Kate Coombs
Oh, what a beautiful, surreal moment!
love the first 3 lines
I love your idea — the ceiling flying away on golden wings.
I can imagine that looking up in wonder. Lovely image!

Grandma’s Quilt
Nimble fingers,
needle and thread,
jumbled colors
became a spread
too beautiful
for my bed.
It’s true, it could be a gorgeous quilt-well done rhythm and rhyme!
Thanks, Linda.
string of a golden harps sowing infinite not’s on sky-quilts nights you pome made me think of this beautiful
This makes me so happy, Pat. My mom used to be quite the quilter–she just dabbles now… I love those nimble fingers.
It does look a bit like a Victorian patchwork of velvets and golden threads! Nice!

I’ve experienced that “slippery tangle of nothing”, Laura. I like what you wrote despite your chagrin at having “nothing”.

I like how you thought of a “ceiling menagerie.”

Creation
Paint pots poised
On scaffolding high
Await artist?s touch,
The alchemy of life.
I like the idea of “Paint pots poised”, and what a picture was created!
Lovely, especially that last line!
You know, someone had to get on scaffolding to do that fancy painting! Not I!

Insect Artistry
Soft curtains frame
a warm summer night,
the window is painted
with firefly light.

Golden rafters high
Rap-tap echoed stage
Overwhelming glory
At so young an age
Dance recitals for us were held in a gorgeous old theater in our small town. I still remember my first time on that stage.
I like that you’ve responded to a memory, Donna, “rap-tap echoed stage”.
Cool! What a great setting for a young dancer. So much more regal than a community center:>)

Curtains opened on Act 1.
Rave reviews when play was done.
(Star performer? My son!)
And I’m sure *none* of those rave reviews came directly from mom–hehehe!

Laura,
This poem must accompany those times when people say they’re not thinking of anything.

A ROYAL DAY AT THE RACES
Opulent velodrome
of amber, cerise, and tangerine
Fit for a velocipede
ridden by the Queen
Ellen Vojnovic
I love this quirky image! And loved learning “velocipede,” which I didn’t know was the name of those things:>)
Okay, now that I know what the words mean, I love it. I wonder if this queen ever “jousts” on her velocipede.

I sit diminished
In a forever field of sunflowers,
Arching under their own weight above me,
While shiny, black seeds
Pattern my contemplation.
I like the idea of “patterns” in “contemplation”…interesting and beautiful!

Love “awaits lives music”…it’s a different tune everyday!
