Poetry Friday and Poem-a-Day: #20

sun climbs all morning
perches at sky-top: burns, sweats–
declines rest of day

Happy Poetry Friday!

Two pieces of news:

1) I’m on Your Daily Poem today! Do you know YourDailyPoem.com? I love it, and I was so thrilled when they took my poem “Unwrapped.”?

2) Mentors for Rent is hosting a free Q&A salon on Facebook Tuesday night, April 24, from 8–9 p.m. Central time. Drop in and ask questions about the craft of writing (including poetry), submitting your work, marketing yourself, and any other writing-related questions. Lisa Bullard and I will do our best to answer!

Diane Mayr at Random Noodling?has the Poetry Friday Roundup today. Enjoy all the poetry goodness!

    1. I KNOW! Except I’m also thinking, 10 more days of haiku? I mean, I could write 10 haiku very fast. But stopping to write one each day and post it…I’m feeling sad that I’ve missed out on the great majority of poetry stuff going on in the kidlitosphere…

      1. I know what you mean! I’ve loved hosting all the poets at NWR, but at the same time I’ve missed out on my own writing and lots of other great events going on. But I think it was worth it in the end. 🙂 The trick is to keep all the great poetry stuff going and going and going so we don’t feel we have to cram it into one month…

    1. Thank you, Tabatha! I think this is my first adult poem to be published–I’m a big YDP fan, so it’s really great to be there:)

  1. Hi, Laura! I was so excited to see your poem at Your Daily Poem! I said, “Hey, I know her!” Well, I guess I don’t exactly KNOW you, but I loved the poem anyway. 🙂 Ruth, from thereisnosuchthingasagodforsakentown.blogspot.com

    1. Thank you, Ruth! The lexicon is tricky, isn’t it? I definitely always feel I “know” all my online “friends,” even though I may not see them in person or be able to tell details about them. If they’re enough a part of this warm and encouraging kidlitosphere that I recognize their name, I also get excited to see their byline anywhere:)

    1. Thank you! It’s comforting to know some online friends are subscribers:) I don’t know how many people subscribe, but at least not all of them are strangers!

  3. There’s so much going on this month it is impossible to keep up.
Congrats on being chosen for YourDailyPoem.

  5. The first thing I read each morning is the Daily Poem, & there you were Laura, with a beautiful poem. Congratulations. I like that ‘declines rest of day”, & sometimes am glad of it!
