Poem-a-Day: #1

pond wears white swan gown
velvet folds, feathers flutter–
dragonfly pin shines

April is always a busy month for me, and this year that’s truer than ever. But I hate to see National Poetry Month just slide by without doing something particular to celebrate it.

Liz Garton Scanlon, one of the Poetry Princesses, mentioned she was doing a haiku a day for April. I like haiku and senryu, so I think I’ll give that a try too. These will be down and dirty without much revision, but I hope it will be fun and will give me a chance to hone my skills a bit. I haven’t written haiku in a while!

  1. I think a haiku a day sounds perfect and I’m thinking in about a week I’m going to be wishing I had made the same choice instead of what I’m doing. ha!

I absolutely love the image of “pond wears white swan gown”

Looking forward to more of your haiku this month.

  3. Laura,

Happy National Poetry Month! Sorry I haven’t been commenting much at your blog lately. I’m so busy being a nanny granny that I have a lot less time for blogging. I’m hoping to find time during National Poetry Month to post more often. I also hope to write some new poems to post during April. Good luck with your poetry writing this month!

    1. Ditto from me, Elaine (not the nanny granny part, but the not commenting/visiting). I have lost sight of my blog balance and need to work on it! Look forward to your new poems this month!

  5. I haven’t written haiku since I was a school girl, and I’m thinking that it’s been too long. Besides my own Poetry Month event (and thanks again for being part of it!), I signed up for an A‑Z poetry writing thingy — so I’ll be stopping in for inspiration for short form poetry all month! 🙂
