Weeds [15 words or less]

Photo: Laura Purdie Salas

Wake up your poetry brains with 15 Words or Less (guidelines here)!

15WOLs

When I was walking Captain Jack the other night, the sun shining on these weeds caught my eye. This image makes me think of:

1) a UFO shining down
2) butterflies in chrysalises, waiting to fly
3) slugs–ugh!

And here’s my?first draft:

Chrysalis

I am
ensnared
encased
enclosed

but I will fly free
on sunlight wings

  5. Sixteen. My excuse is I needed it to scan properly!

    Weeds

    You look at us
    and call us weeds.
    We shine, we grow,
    we make good seeds.

  7. Have a lovely holiday weekend Laura. I had similar thoughts to your picture. I like that repetition: ensnared, encased, enclosed!

    Pretending

    Caterpillars ride
    on grassy stems
    tasting the feel
    of the future.

  9. I love all your E words, Laura.

    OVER GROWN

The last days of August hum

    while we wave,

    bathe in gold,

    wearing summer.

    1. August is my favorite month and you just added a few more reasons. Very nice and calming.

    1. I like the way it sounds when read aloud, Buffy, all those ‘w’ words, but thinking of them ‘packed with summer sun’ is a lovely thought!

  11. This is such a lovely photo, full of light and potential. Fun to contemplate. Here’s what I wrote:

    AMBASSADORS OF THE SUN

    Boisterous blossoms
    have loud tales to tell,

but we weeds sing the storyline
    equally well.

    1. this is wonderful I love the idea of the plants tailing a story wonderful 🙂

  13. Potential

    Weeds can be
    whatever we see
    While a rose
    is a rose
    is a rose.

  15. This photo is gorgeous, Laura! Your suggestion of aliens sent my mind up to the stars.

    Each field of wheat
    a universe
    full of glowing, golden galaxies
    teeming with life unseen.

Hope you had a lovely weekend!

  17. *It’s 16 words but I like it anyway.*

    WEEDS
    Out of place, neglected race
    Soon as we?re standing tall
We get snatched one and all
