Happy Poetry Friday! (Wondering what Poetry Friday is? Click here.)
I thought that this month, I’d share the poems I wrote for the Madness Poetry competition created by Ed DeCaria. Here was my first-round poem, written with the assigned word “coordinates.” I wanted to play a bit with repetition and refrains during the competition, so you’ll see that element here (and again later!).
And for lots of wonderful poetry, don’t miss the Poetry Friday Roundup with Kiesha at Whispers from the Ridge.

I remember this, thought you were very clever to make the connection in repetition, Laura. It was fun to read all the poems!
Very true! Ruth, thereisnosuchthingasagodforsakentown.blogspot.com
I love those lines that read so quickly, “I need you need me.” This poem winds its meaning throughout the words.
Love the repetition and refrain. Well done!
“We braid one rope.
Combine our fates.”
Let’s make sure that the rope we braid is used as a lifeline…
Yes!
I love the line Mary Lee highlights, too. Gorgeous poem, and it says “all we need” in very few words.
I remember this poem from the competition. Loved it then and now 🙂
This is brilliant! I wonderful reminder of the interconnectedness of the world and all who live within it.
“We braid our rope.
Combine our fates.”
What strong powerful lines, I’m all for encouraging more of this! Thanks for sharing your March Madness poem here Laura!
This is wonderful, Laura! I love the repetition and refrain and that deceiving simplicity of “I need you need me.”
So beautiful and so wise. xxxx
Laura, I love this–very well done at short notice, and I would have missed it if you hadn’t been reposting. Our handsign in 2nd for Social Studies is a version of “Here is the church and here is the steeple,” and we learn that social studies is “learning about how people get along together on the earth.” I think I need to add this poem to that intro to the most foundational learning we do at school. In fact I think this will be the last poem we add to our anthologies this year–with your permission. < 3
Honored, Heidi. You absolutely have my permission:>)
