Please forgive the double post today, but I wanted to share this poem while it was still Poetry Month. I signed up for Jone MacCulloch’s Silver Star Poetry Project again this year, and I just got my beautiful postcard yesterday. What a burst of brightness and cheer on a grey, drizzly day (well, OK, you guys know I love a grey, rainy day, but still–this was like spring blooming in my mailbox!). I think it’s such a great idea to send out student poems to a real, live audience, and I love being on the receiving end of this project. I still have last year’s poem on my refrigerator, and now Marina’s glittering Pegasus will graze there, too. Thank you, Marina and Jone!

I worked with 4th graders and it is unbelievable, the creativity there. Perhaps its because they are on the border of little childhood and the older, “wiser” . This poem is lovely. Connie
4th and 5th graders do come up with amazing stuff! You might be right about that cusp between kid and teen.

Somehow I missed signing up. Love this sweet poem postcard. One of my young students, a 2nd grader, wrote her addition poem about Pegasus. (I am sneaking poetry into math class.) Here’s a link to it on our class blog at kidblog.

Lovely poem. I can imagine this being read slowly to great effect.
Oh, that would be excellent. S‑q-u-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-z‑e…
