Literacy Night at Knapp

March 8, 2017 By Laura

Last night, I visited Knapp Elementary School in Knapp, Wisconsin, for a literacy celebration. It was easy to see Principal Kristin Humphrey is a reading specialist by training–books are celebrated everywhere in the school! I especially loved these displays of artwork related to my book A ROCK CAN BE…

The kids and I read a few books and poems together, including my just-released IF YOU WERE THE MOON. They did a great job spinning, whispering, and playing tug of war! I think they could all take on the moon’s jobs now:>)

We also wrote a couple of poems, including this spider one, inspired by an image of a firework exploding in the sky like a great red spider.

And in the Q&A, these delightful kids complimented my hair and glasses;>) And also asked great questions about favorite books and authors, publishing timelines, and more.

Best of all, each student got to take home a book of his or her very own! What a great event to emphasize the joy and power of books:>)

Thanks, Knapp Elementary School, for having me visit!

SEPTEMBER NEWS

Whee! It's fall, the time of fresh starts. I'm busy working with a web designer to redesign my site--yikes. That's a big project. But I started off the month with a family visit in Florida, which was great. Now I'm prepping for a fall-themed storytime at the South St. Paul Library on Sep. 26 at 10:30 a.m. Hope you can come!
