I had 2 fabulous school visits in February and wanted to share a few pictures. If you only click on one photo, do the white poem on green background paper in the first gallery–the student poem “Things to Do if You Are a Valentine’s Card.” I am in love with this poem. Often, the very best part of a visit is when teachers share with me afterward what their students wrote that was inspired by my visit. We always have a blast with Things to Do if… poems, and they’re so adaptable and accessible. I love seeing these small gems–tangible effects of my day with them.
First, Media Specialist Laurie Lindquist brought me to Sunset Hill Elementary in Plymouth, MN, where I did one of my first school visits (way back in 2010!). What a fantastic time I had reading and writing with this community.
And then I went to Cannon Falls Elementary in Cannon Falls, MN, where teacher Laurie Turner organized a full day and then an evening family event! I was so thankful for good weather, since this school is farther from home. When you schedule a school visit in Minnesota in February, you never know WHAT to expect!
Thank you to both of these schools. It’s always an honor to share my love of books, poetry, and story with your readers and writers!

Fun and fabulous visits! I’ve fallen in love with Emma’s valentine. <3
You and me both!
Whisper love notes and dance with the paste. Oh my goodness. Very lucky kids and schools. I want you to come to our area. Maybe we can make this work. Hmmm. And bring Randy. LOTS to do within 2 hours of this area. But in the fall or spring! I will mention you to some friends. Also in early Nov. The Rochester (NY) Festival of Books would be perfect for you. Have you heard of it? Worth investigating. Amy LV is there as well as many well-known authors like Nikki Grimes, Bruce Coville, James Howe, Linda Sue Park (lives near) and more. Come near end of Oct. is a good time.
Oh, that sounds wonderful! Would love to get out for the festival and some school visits. Autumn out that away is one of my must-do goals:)
