A couple of weeks ago, my writing group, the Wordsmiths, did our little holiday get-together. Great food (can you say whiskey truffles?), laughter (lots), small & lovely gifts, and talking about books and works in progress. We were missing two comrades-in-pens, but other than that, what a lovely afternoon! Thanks, Joyce Sidman, for hosting. It wouldn’t be the same without Watson tearing up wrapping paper!

Laura,
What fun and great gifts. Glad you could attend. Gifts with writers and illustrators in mind are special. Could you tell more about these and where they can be purchased? Were the journal covers made by hand? Any details on how? Merry Christmas!
Thanks, Linda! I ordered the journals with the felt animals on Etsy, but there was a weird paper label with misspellings/odd English on each, and glue dots left behind when I removed them, so my daughter Annabelle glued on the ribbon and wrote each person’s name in Sharpie for me! Joyce took the photos and made the beautiful calendars. The bookplates are from Galison and can be found here: http://amzn.to/1IjJ8On. And I can’t find where Tunie found the mugs, which say, “Our words are real silver and gold.” (And which she filled with gold decorations, Hershey Kisses, and the strips of paper with phrases from the recipient’s books.) And…I haven’t said much about this because I’m still working out some issues with their creation tools, but I’ve opened a small CafePress shop with a few things for readers/writers/teachers: http://www.cafepress.com/laurapurdiesalas Hope to create more there (or in a different space) in 2016! :>)
What a fun group to have close by! I looked for the mugs. They are by Rachel Awes
but are not available any more.
There is a print of the picture available from her though.

They ARE a fun group. We laugh a lot–and learn a lot!
Thank you, Donna–aren’t you handy with the search! 🙂
Thanks for answering my questions, Laura and Donna! Such thoughtful and special gifts!
Envy is not a pretty thing, so I won’t say I have that, but.…it surely looks like you have the best writer friends and group!
It’s a terrific group:) I’m grateful for my writing friends–those I see in person AND those I mostly see online.
Looks like a wonderful gathering. I hope you have a very Merry Christmas, Laura.
You, too, Linda! And a holly jolly 2016!
