July 20 is the 51st anniversary of the first lunar landing! I bought stamps recently featuring this momentous occasion in our history. It really is astonishing to me that humans were able to walk on the moon. Want to celebrate the moon landing with your students or kids? Check out the post I wrote for Reading Rockets last year, “Little Projects Inspired by the Big Moon.” My love for space inspired my own book, If You Were the Moon (illus. by Jaime Kim, Millbrook, 2017). You can find more activities on that page, plus check out Delaware Libraries’ list of moon-related books for kids and teens.
[My Classroom Connections posts will share a way to connect one of my books or poems to a classroom topic–often something timely that you might be covering in the next month or so. Please share this post if you have educator friends who might be interested–thanks!]

After your book, If I Were a Moon, published I saw it in the window of a library in a school I was substituting in. I didn’t have time to read it then, but I was excited to read it on my return to pick up the students. I loved the words and illustrations! Unfortunately, I couldn’t borrow it to read to the class.
I told the students about it and encouraged them to borrow it.
Thanks, Gail!
Thanks, Gail–it was such a fun book to create.
