I’m so grateful that Puddle Song is on Betsy Bird’s list of Great Board Books of 2023!
She says:
Had a co-worker of mine not read this book aloud to me, I don’t know that I would have loved it as much as I now do. Salas really is a poet and that skill has been brought to the fore in this title. Listen to this:
“Bring me your leaves, you wind-rattled trees.”
It just gives me the shivers (in a good way!”. Ditto this next one:
“in my silver skin rippling light in the breeze.”
Dang. Preschoolers never had it so good.
Well, that just makes my week! Thank you, Betsy! And, teachers you should check out the rest of Betsy’s recommendations here. And check out my Puddle Song page for a fun activity for the classroom.
Also, if you have a little one at home that likes playing in the rain, wouldn’t this umbrella make a fun holiday gift along with the book?

Hi Laura,
I do love this book and your poetry!! So good for littles.
You referred to “this” umbrella. Did you have a specific one in mind? Or just a nice one and maybe one like the one on the cover? I love pretty umbrellas myself!!!
Janet
PS CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Thanks, Janet! Does the picture of the umbrella not show up for you, I assume? It was this one, with the forest animals: https://amzn.to/3Rts4ge
