Last week on Twitter, Madison Bailey shared some 3rd-graders’ leaf creations they made after reading A Leaf Can Be…! How awesome is that? My Can Be… books are all about seeing common things in new ways, and that’s exactly what they did. Some looked at the shapes of the leaves and thought about what they reminded them of and built their picture around that. Others took the leaves and transformed them to make them fit what they already wanted to make. Both ways worked!
Hooray for Mrs. Lee’s 3rd-grade class at Silver Creek Elementary! Thanks, Madison, Mrs. Lee, and students. Your creations made my day.
Here are a few delights–aren’t they fantastic? One of the best things about writing is when it inspires art and creative thinking in kids:>)

These are great. Mistletoe, really? Clever. And the labels on the monster. Love!

So imaginative! All are fantastic; my favorites are the sandwich (love the pick through it) and the monster. Thanks for a wonderful start to a new week.
