Happy Poetry Friday! (Wondering what Poetry Friday is? Click here.)
Hi, Poetry Friday friends. First, thanks for all the lovely wishes for Annabelle’s wedding :>) Even a rainy day and social distancing couldn’t tamp down the joy!
I missed PF last week, and I missed you guys. This weekend will also be very busy with visitors and travel (all social distanced), but I put this together. I miss you when I don’t take part, even if I comment on a few blogs. I took this (grainy) aurora photo on my phone in Iceland a few years ago. Seeing the aurora was a bucket list item for me! This poem is an etheree, though I ended up adding some rhyme to it, too.
Actually, there are lots of times when thank you is all we need to think, right? For lots of wonderful poetry, don’t miss the Poetry Friday Roundup with Jan Annino, who’s sharing a lovely poem inspired by memories of her mom!

A joy to see sunny skies & more lift, such sweet smiling faces of JOY.
You world-traveler — bringing us a dreamgreen Aurora!
I love the photo & your ethereee tribute to our Universe.
(Extra xo to the newlyweds!)
Thanks, Jan! (It rained pretty much all day, but my brother-in-law got some great photos in the few times it let up!)
Congrats on your daughter’s wedding! And thank you for your aurora poem and the reminder to ‘think in thank yous’.
Thanks, Bridget:>)
I love ‘ribbons dancing on black” — beautiful poem, Laura.
Thanks, Matt!
Aurora is on my bucket list, too. Lovely photo of your family. We have a wedding scheduled for our youngest daughter in October. We are not thinking it will be normal by then.
I love ribbons dance on black like ballerinas of light. Lovely imagery.
Thanks, Margaret–I will send good wishes for the wedding. I hope it is full of love and support for your daughter, and that everything important that NEEDS to happen, does:>) And hoping for an aurora for you. I want to see more, someday. But I’ll always be grateful for this one.
And, thank YOU for this lovely reminder of a cold dark night that has ribbons in it. I miss those about now. Congratulations to the newlyweds. What a wonderful celebration of life!
Thank you, Linda!
Congrats to the newlyweds! It’s a joy to see this aurora poem and think about the wonder and joy of seeing those ribbons dance on black. A lovely capture of a memory!
Thanks so much, Ramona!
Congratulations on your daughter’s wedding! What beautiful imagery, simile, and personification! I can see it.
Thank you, Gail:>)
Thank you for this glimmering etheree Laura, and swaying-like image! I saw an aurora way up north in Maine when my son was only 4 years old. I wanted to stand there forever and watch this amazing sky, but it terrified my son, so I have a small but forever memory of it. Many congrats on your daughter’s wedding! xo
Thanks, Michelle. Many peoples and cultures have been terrified by auroras, so your son’s instincts are not uncommon. Sorry it shortened the experience of it for you, though!
