Wake up your poetry brains with 15 Words or Less (guidelines here)!

15WOLs

Here’s Captain Jack on Halloween–he didn’t keep the hat on very long:>) But since he is Captain Jack Sparrow, it seems only fitting to celebrate his piratiness at least once a year! This image makes me think of:

1) Johnny Depp as a dog
2) a pirate dog would dig up his very own skull and crossbones in the yard
3) a dog’s definition of treasure is slightly different from a real pirate’s!

And here’s my?first draft.

Johnny Depp-Dogg

I’m scraggly-coated…

need a bath…

But my soulful chocolate eyes

will gain your treasure?

Now it’s your turn! Have fun and stick to 15 WORDS OR LESS!??(Title doesn’t count toward word count:>)?

[Note: I’m off to Washington, DC, today to attend the NCTE annual conference. I won’t be able to comment on your poems this week, though they are giving me a good laugh as I read them here in the Chicago airport en route to NCTE. I hope you have a good time with them anyway! See you next week.]

  1. Canine-pirate commandeers my heart.
    Though flustered by stolen treasure,
With cherished steak, I can part.

    1. I like the term shanghaied Cindy. They have no say-so with their humans; well, yes they do and it’s those eyes that let them have their way.

    1. Another opinion from the dear dog. My daughter used to dress our ‘little’ dog, & he seemed to like it, or maybe he just liked her?

  5. Mistaken Identity

    It’s Captain Jack
    not Captain Hook.
    If you don’t believe me
    just read the book!

Safe travels Laura. We will miss your interaction this week. Captain Jack Sparrow (love the name) has the same soulful brown eyes, replete with stains, as our part cocker Brady Boy, a.k.a BB.

    1. Good morning Diane. Not only do the dogs cower, but any attempt to add anything to our dog’s body results in transforming him into a ceramic dog. He brakes and refuses to move. That includes winter attire.

    2. Yeah, my dog will not accept any treats from our UPS man, no matter how many times she sees him. If I hold it for a while and get his, evidently, offensive smell off, she will take it. Or maybe she just forgets that he was the giver.

  9. Those ‘soulful’ eyes made many girls giggle when the movies came out, Laura. Love your Captain Jack. Dogs prey on the heartstrings. Have fun at NCTE-sorry to miss. Here’s another verse (voice?).

    Hurry, get ready;
    pet parade?s today!
    If the treats keep coming,
    I will be okay.

    1. Donna, your verse confirms that for trick or treat, in our neighborhood at least, Kit-Kats were more readily accepted than Musketeers. Cute!

  11. Hi, 15WOL-ers! I’m not able to reply to individual poems, but I did want to say that you all are providing great reading for me as I sit here in the Chicago airport, waiting to board my next flight. You guys rock!
