[Note from Laura: Hi, teachers and readers! If Louis were writing a gross poem about me today, it would be about head colds, congestion, crusty stuff, and maybe green stuff, too. :>( Yup, I’ve got a cold. And I’m glad Louis isn’t here to describe it. Thanks for reading!]
Louis J. Pasternak
Poetry Assignment #5: Alliteration
Shh…It’s a Snake
I see it at recess
In the sun, on the stone
Its split tongue
Sips my scent
I sneak closer to study it
But it slithers off sideways
Streaks across the meadow,
Slips out of its scaly skin
Miss S – Do you notice all the alliteration? Really radical, right? Did you notice that, too? All the Rs in a row?
Yes, indeed, I did notice your alliteration. In fact, you went above and beyond what I hoped for. Quite a bit beyond. Shakespeare’s Sonnet V has some wonderful examples of alliteration.
When Miss Sweetmallow passed back our papers, she said she was impressed.
“I’ll read an especially fine one aloud,” she said.
I waited to hear my poem.
Winter Window
by Goldie Granmotifrozen weather
frosty feathers
dance across the
glass divideicy slivers
soft white shivers
seek to slide their
way inside
That was not my poem.
