Hi, Poetry Friday friends. (Wondering what Poetry Friday is? Click here.) Randy and I were at Walt Disney World all last week, and I didn’t do a dang bit of writing. But I have this lovely video to share–unrelated to Disney.
A couple of weeks ago, Sara from Walla Walla, Washington, reached out to me. She teaches an adult drumming class, and she and her students had worked on a piece adding percussion sounds to my poem, “Voice of Winter.” She was asking permission to share it on YouTube so that drummers could share it with family, etc. What fun!
It’s delightful! SO much fun to hear people interact with my poem (scroll down to the bottom of that post to see the poem on its own), add their own talents, and make something new. What a gift to me <3 Here’s the video–enjoy (and maybe even leave a comment to encourage this kind of lovely collaboration).
Thanks for dropping by. Whether you’re a regular participant in the Poetry Friday world, or you ended up here from a search or a link, please know that we’re a welcoming community! Read, comment, think, share, and enjoy! And for more wonderful poetry, don’t miss the Poetry Friday Roundup with Denver’s one and only Linda Baie.

What a treat, Laura! Thank you for sharing.
I love this, Laura! What a clever way to speak your poem! I had a short Christmas play recorded by students and it was a thrill to see how it was interpreted. Really fun. I hope you had fun at Disney World.
And, your winter has definitely been moaning and creaking this year. This is wonderful the way the ‘drumming class’ has added to your poem, Laura. It’s a treat to hear (and imagine)!
What fun Laura, to have your poem enacted with a percussion accompaniment, your poem is perfectly suited for it! I like the sparkly sound of the ice’s glitter, thanks!
Laura, this is a treasure!! Educators AMAZE me. Wonderful!! Do you know the Dvorak piece “Silent Woods” ? A piece of music about silent woods… I mean, if that isn’t poetry, I don’t know what is!
Poetry and percussion working their magic, Laura. Enjoyed this creative partnership. UK Poet, Brian Moses does a lot of work with poetry and percussion also. It serves to expand possibility.
Oh, Laura, that’s fabulous! Huzzah for “The Voice of Winter” and huzzah for the Marvelous Ms. Sara!
I can’t believe I missed your poem the first time around! I love your use of language — it’s so fun to read aloud!
Wow! That was so cool! Lovely poem Laura, with the repetition of how winter speaks. Right now, spring is trying to get my attention with these 65 mph wind gusts!
So cool! I love the whispering snowflakes. What a diversity of sounds in the drum group. Thanks for sharing.
Wow! What a delight, Laura! Very fun to see the reach of your poetry!
This is SO cool, Laura! I love this!
