Happy Poetry Friday! (Wondering what Poetry Friday is? Click here.)
You guys, I’m totally slammed from now through the end of October, so my posts will be uber-short. And I’ll still comment on other folks’ posts over the weekend, but I won’t get to everyone’s every week :>(
[Hey, off-topic, but I’m part of a local library program (via Zoom) a week from this Saturday. It will be Michael Hall, Joyce Sidman, and me–each talking a bit about how a book of ours came to be–then Q&A. Please join us–you can register at https://thefriends.org/event/moving-words-writers-across-minnesota-center-city/ ]
I’ve been reading an ARC of A World Full of Poems, edited by Sylvia Vardell. It is a fabulous anthology, put together with love and care. I’m so pleased to have two poems in it, and I have adored seeing so many other Poetry Friday names in there! Here’s one of my poems, which Sylvia found on my blog. It’s from National Poetry Month in 2018. Isn’t it amazing how much more weight a book, a designer, an illustrator gives a poem? (Though poems on Post-Its written on airplanes have their own appeal too, of course.) This is a screen capture off my phone and is a bit stretched!
This beautiful anthology comes out from DK on October 6, and it’s available for pre-order now. Don’t miss it! And for lots of wonderful poetry, check out the Poetry Friday Roundup with personable poet Matt Forrest Esenwine!

What a wonderful bird vision, loved the flight Laura! And thanks for the heads-up about your library talk, I’m registered.
Thanks! Not sure who this is, but I’m glad you registered for the Moving Words program!
Hi Laura, its, Michelle Kogan
Laura, this is lovely! I’m looking forward to seeing the whole book.
Thanks, Liz. I’m looking forward to getting a print copy. Reading it on my phone is NOT ideal!
Oh, you busy bird! I’ve registered for the library event and am looking forward to it. Never worry about what you can’t do–you’re doing all the right things! Keep writing and speaking and being a poetic voice. We need it, kids need it more than ever.
Thank you, Linda. Your words are so comforting! (So happy you registered!)
I keep seeing all these clips from the book (like Laura’s imaginative haiku), and it’s looks fantastic! Just about everyone I know seems to be in it!
Laura, how wonderful that you are being interviewed. Kudos to you for having two poems in A World Full of Poems. The post-it poem ends on such an “uplifting” thought.
I love seeing this, Laura, know your poem touches many of us who would love to become those birds together! Thanks for sharing!
I love your small, but mighty poem, Laura! Congrats on its inclusion in this anthology and on being ‘totally slammed’. It’s good to be busy. 🙂
Congratulations, Laura! I grew up traveling by air to visit family. I love the idea of shared space that your haiku evokes.
What a fun (& profound, on a deeper level, of course!) perspective — thanks for sharing, Laura! (And, I’m eager to have & hold this book, too — one of my previous Pomelo poems is in there. Honored to share pages with you.) :0) The webinar sounds wonderful…
Oh to travel again. Congrats on this inclusion in the new anthology.
Oh to be traveling again. Congrats on this poem in the new anthology. Can’t wait to get it.
