I so love it when kids (or grown-ups) do their own writing inspired by something I wrote!
A virtual book club of 2nd graders at Spradley Elementary in Frisco, TX, read Lion of the Sky and wrote their own zoo-ku in response.
Aren’t those fabulous? Can you guess the animals? I love seeing how students give clues to their chosen animals. They included both facts and opinions and gave me enough info to make decent guesses. What a great job! Thank you, writers, and thank you to Megan Tumulty, the librarian who shared these with me.

Laura, how exciting for you to receive children’s poems based on your book! I love reading kid’s poetry and I miss teaching it. Thank you for bringing me joy;Thank you for the active sheet, also.
It really is, Gail—thank you! Teaching poetry is the best, isn’t it?
