The Quilt Guild, a Skinny Poem
Yesterday’s poem about stitches made me think of my mom. She was a passionate quilter. Lots of rustic ones, occasional fancy ones, a few tied ones. We have about 20. After retirement, her Quilt Guild (I didn’t even know there was such a thing) was such a joy for her. My dad is quite antisocial,

Connecting
Today’s skinny poem topic is stitches–for no particular reason! But I thought of my mom, quilting, and also of a doctor stitching up a cut. And more ways stitches join things together. So… here’s today’s poem. Thanks for reading, and if you want to see more of my National Poetry Month poems, click here.

Anything But Bread
I’m sharing an unexpected poem today. This past year has been a lot, with family crises every time we turn around. We’re helping out where and when we can, but most of the crises are bigger than we are. I wrote a first draft of this poem and a few revisions about six weeks ago,

Flying Home
Well, if you’ve been following along, you’ve seen that Oregon was just amazing. And suddenly, it was time to leave. I have no photos of the leaving. That’s always the hard part of a trip, even when I’m maybe ready to get back home and back to my routines. Even though it’s not the topic

Oregon Coastal Road
In Oregon and northern California, Randy and I spent a couple of days driving up the coast. Wow. It’s hard to capture in photos, because it’s mostly NOT (thank goodness) crazy high cliffside views. It’s forests and curvy roads with occasional bursts of blue water, waves, sky, and nifty offshore rocks. And here’s my skinny

Yaquina Head Lighthouse
One spot we visited during our Oregon trip was Yaquina Head Lighthouse. Perched on top of a cliff looking out over the Pacific, it’s a beautiful, simple, elegant structure. We checked out the lighthouse, watched swarms of nesting seabirds floating on the ocean, watched seals sunning and playing below on the rocks, and visited the

Pacific Tide
Randy and I spent as much time as possible close to (or on) the water in Oregon and northern California. Although it rained a fair bit, we also had some glorious weather. We walked to Battery Point Lighthouse at low tide, walked the Indian Sands Trail, went to Agate Beach (buried under sand), and finally

Pouring
Randy and I spent 2 days driving through and walking among the coastal redwoods of Northern California. I barely have words for how amazing and otherworldly they are. It rained a lot, and we were soaking wet. Here are a few pics And here’s my skinny poem for today.

In the Shade
Today’s skinny was inspired by a mashup of my love for the shade of trees, how I adore cozy and hidden spaces, and my horror at the news of various arrests carried out by hooded immigration (I think) officers.

Family Gathering
Here’s today’s skinny, written after several gatherings with our new family-in-law.

National Poetry Month “Lift” Off
I’m aiming for a skinny poem per day this month, but we’ll see. I’m away from home right now, exploring, sometimes without Wi-Fi, so…But here’s one to start us off.

I Envy You, Rip Van Winkle
Happy Poetry Friday! Welcome, everyone! (Wondering what Poetry Friday is? Click here.) This month, we Poetry Sisters wrote poems inspired by Lucille Clifton’s notes to Superman. When we met up on Zoom, Liz Garton Scanlon mentioned the power of relying on the collective memory/knowledge of a group of people as a kind of shorthand. That’s
